Vinification
In 2024, fruit was harvested in late August, foot tread, and macerated whole cluster for two weeks. Upon fermenting dry, the wine was pressed directly to barrel, blending with reserve wine from ‘21/’22 vintages. The combination sat undisturbed and un-topped for 12 months. Previous vintages saw similar macerations and sporadic topping over the years as it aged. This year’s release is comprised of 40% ’24, 35%, ’21, and 25% ’22 vintages. Components of this wine were aged in barrel and glass for up to four years. No additions of SO2 were made at any stage of this wine.
Notes
After skipping the 2023 vintage due to sky rocketing imbalances of sugar and acid, we got back on track in 2024. Harvest was more on schedule but still possessed the same intensity of sugar and acid Petit Manseng is known for. Well aged reserve wine was dwindling so the choice to lean on younger, ’24 wine swung this year’s release back towards a more tannic and spicy profile reminiscent of early Special Edition releases of this wine. There is less raisin and more brown sugar. The wine welcomes oxygen and we encourage you to drink this over the course of hours or days if possible. The wine drinks well with food and can be cellared for years to come if desired. Drink slightly chilled.
